CREATIVITY BELONGS IN REAL LIFE

Right now, my art leads me more than I lead it.

It’s a conversation with myself I didn’t know I could have—one where something shows up on the canvas before I fully understand it. I’ll step back and ask, where did this come from? what does it mean to me? And sometimes the answer doesn’t arrive right away. It unfolds over days, weeks, even months.

There isn’t always a plan. And yet, the work still finds cohesion.

Because I’m the constant.

I show up with honesty. I follow what pulls at me. I let curiosity, emotion, and instinct take the lead—and somehow, my story reveals itself anyway.

That’s the practice.

And I believe it’s something everyone deserves to experience—creating not from pressure or perfection, but from a place that’s real, intuitive, and entirely their own.

SLAS: The Creative Rebellion Shows Up

J.J. Riggs joins 100+ artists at the Salt Lake Art Show

The Creative Rebellion is heading to the Salt Lake Art Show, May 14th – 17th at the Mountain America Expo Center.

This inaugural show is a major new fine art fair, bringing together national and international galleries, collectors, and over 100 artists across disciplines—from painting and sculpture to design, furniture, and beyond.

J.J. Riggs will be exhibiting and selling original work as part of this large-scale celebration of creativity, community, and artistic expression. This is your chance to experience her work in a space that brings together some of the most exciting artists working today.

Come explore, connect, and step into a weekend where art takes over.

We don’t just teach art—we create space for people to remember they’re creative.

Every week, The Creative Rebellion shows up in unexpected places across the city, bringing hands-on, human, a little-bit-messy creativity back into real life. These classes are built for everyone—from “I haven’t made anything in years” to “I live for this.”

You’ll find us popping up at places like Workshop SLC, Hills Kitchen, Proper Brewing, and 2 Row Brewing—turning everyday spaces into creative playgrounds.

And when things get a little darker (in the best way), the Dark and Moody Stitch Witch steps in—teaching goth cross stitch, abstract sewing, and textile work for those who like their creativity a little more unfiltered.

We’re building toward a permanent Creative Rebellion home — a space that feels alive the moment you walk in.

A place where inspiration isn’t abstract… it’s in the air. Where you can hear laughter from a workshop in one room and quiet focus in another. Where art hangs boldly on the walls, and the people inside feel brave enough to make their own.

This will be a space for:

• Community programming that feels welcoming, not intimidating

WHAT's NEXT

The Art Garden is a pilot creative space developed by The Creative Rebellion and artist JJ Riggs, designed to prove a simple idea: creativity flourishes when people are invited into it.

Launching in 2027, The Art Garden will transform a private home studio, garage, and garden into an intimate community art space where participants can create alongside a working artist. Through workshops, private lessons, open studio experiences, and community gatherings, visitors will gain a rare glimpse into the creative process as it happens.

Rather than presenting art as something distant or exclusive, The Art Garden invites people to witness how artists work today: experimenting, solving problems, following curiosity, and finding meaning through making. Guests will be encouraged to create their own work, develop confidence in their creativity, and discover that art is not reserved for the talented few.

As a proof of concept for The Creative Rebellion’s long-term vision, The Art Garden will serve as a testing ground for community-centered arts programming while building momentum toward a future permanent creative hub. The goal is to create a place where art is made, shared, taught, and experienced in a way that feels welcoming, inspiring, and deeply human.
